Inbuilt Evaluation Mechanisms To Gauge Engagement In a Virtua
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper describes a virtual historically simulated environment with inbuilt evaluation mechanisms to test the effect of various levels of interactivity on user engagement and immersion in a foreign cultural environment. The proposed evaluation mechanisms are computer scripted agents, dynamic physical environments, culturally situated tasks and artifacts, and multi-layered ‘memento maps’. As the evaluation mechanisms are internal and do not require stopping the user to ask them questions, a further research aim will be to evaluate their effectiveness in measuring user engagement as opposed to traditional survey methods. Results will be obtained by comparing user engagement in an interactive versus non-interactive virtual environment using both traditional usability techniques and also the inbuilt evaluation mechanisms.

متن کاملCultural Engagement in Virtual Heritage Environments with Inbuilt Interactive Evaluation Mechanisms
My initial premise is that virtual heritage environments currently do not provide a sense of ‘cultural’ engagement, and, secondly, that is it important to fulfill these needs. Indeed, how can we develop virtual environments for cultural applications that successfully evoke a sense of engagement or immersion? This paper suggests that the above issue has been indirectly addressed by entertainment...

متن کاملFrom Craft to Reflective Art and Science; Comment on “Metrics and Evaluation Tools for Patient Engagement in Healthcare Organization- and System-Level Decision-Making: A Systematic Review”
Patient engagement practices are increasingly incorporated in health research, governance, and care. More recently, a large number of evaluation tools and metrics have been developed to support engagement evaluation. This growing interest in evaluation reflects a maturation of the patient engagement field, moving from a “craft” to a reflective “art and science,” with more explicit expected bene...
متن کاملDelving Into the Details of Evaluating Public Engagement Initiatives; Comment on “Metrics and Evaluation Tools for Patient Engagement in Healthcare Organization- and System-Level Decision-Making: A Systematic Review”
Initiatives to engage the public in health policy decisions have been widely endorsed and used, yet agreed upon methods for systematically evaluating the effectiveness of these initiatives remain to be developed. Dukhanin, Topazian, and DeCamp have thus developed a useful taxonomy of evaluation criteria derived from a systematic review of published evaluation tools that might serve as the basis...
